On my way to teach class one day, I saw a man standing outside Whole Foods. He had on full tennis gear ~ the headband, wristband, tall socks; he had a bag full of groceries, a drink open in hand, a few empty boxes (I could only assume that perhaps he was getting ready for a move) and a duffel bag full of his clothes, tennis racket and other personal belongings. He was so bogged down with stuff; his bag was so packed to the gills, that in an attempt to make more space he kept pulling his clothes out, rolling them up, and then tucking them back into some far corner of his bag. He did this over and over again, like it was some kind of puzzle~ pull it out, rearrange the form, and replace it.

It was a little bit like watching someone practicing asana. The process of pulling some part of ourselves out, and then folding or rolling or replacing ourselves in such a way that refines & supports the way we take up space in the world, is what our practice is about. To first observe and make choices in attempt of placing ourselves in such a way that maximally reinforces the free flow of energy throughout our bodies and lives, is yoga.
